The Indians had a great week winning four of their five games and two of them were against district opponent Century.
On Wednesday, April 17 Preston hosts a doubleheader with Canyon Ridge beginning at 3:30 p.m. if the weather permits. Friday, April 19 they travel to Sugar-Salem to play a game at 3 p.m.
Preston swept Bear Lake at home on April 13. They plated four runs in the first inning, four in the second, seven in the third and one in the bottom of the fourth. Leading 16-0 at the top of the fifth, the Indians were able to end a five-run Bear Lake rally and end the game 16-5 in four and a half innings.
Zabe Mendoza went 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs. Austin Gleed went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, three runs, and a triple. Conner Thomson added three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Colter Jensen added a double and two RBIs. Klayton Hobbs also doubled and scored once.
Caide Oxborrow shut down the Bears with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He also went 3-for-4 on the other side of the plate scored three runs and stole two bases.
In the nightcap, Preston started strong. They matched the Bears’ three runs in the top of the first inning and added four more for a 7-3 lead at the top of the second. Bear Lake stayed in the game with five runs, taking a one-point lead, but the Indians answered with six in the bottom of the second and held their lead the rest of the game. Preston allowed two more runs in the third but held the Bears scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings while scoring 10 to end the game 23-10 in five innings. All of the Indian players scored at least once. Thomson and Gleed led the offense with four runs each.
At Century, Preston lost the opener when Century plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 7-7 tie and neither team scored in the remaining innings.
Gleed singled three times, drove in a run and scored one himself for the Indians, who got two hits from Thomson, two runs, one hit and one free pass from Jaxson Merrill and one hit, two RBIs and two free passes from Jansen Hollinsgworth. Eli Hammons and Hobbs both doubled.
The game was tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh inning in the nightcap when Hobbs hit a triple and drove in the two runners on base. He scored when Century overthrew third giving Preston a 6-3 lead. The Indians did not allow Century to score in the bottom of the inning and won 6-3.
Thomson contributed with one run, three hits and one RBI, Janson Hollingsworth added a trio of singles and a RBI and Jaxon Merrill two hits. Eli Hammons went the distance on the mound and scattered five hits.
At home on April 10 the Indians trailed 2-4 at the bottom of the sixth inning where they plated five runs. They held Century scoreless in top of the seventh for a 7-4 victory.
Merrill had a big two-run single in the home half of the sixth to pull Preston even at 4-4, and then Hollingsworth put the hosts ahead for good with a run-scoring single. Hollingsworth, Thomson, Hobbs and Mendoza all doubled for the Indians, who got a pair of hits, runs and RBIs from Merrill, two RBIs from Hollingsworth and two runs from Mendoza.
Thomsen pitched the first five frames for Preston, scattered seven hits, struck out nine and allowed two earned runs. Oxborrow held Century to one run during the final two innings.
