The Franklin County Commissioners have scheduled May 30 as an open house for the now completed addition to the courthouse. The remodel of the original building is continuing according to schedule, including updates to the County Assessor building.
The Clyde Walton Class III subdivision on 2400 east of Linrose for three five-acre lots and the Eagle Rock Class II in Maple Creek for three-five acre lots were approved.
Members of the Larsen-Sant Library expansion committee, Laura Wheatly and Max and Glinda Exell, gave a presentation on the planned library expansion and requested a donation from the county to help them move forward. The library has $1 million raised for the project and is also looking into any available grants to supplement those funds.
Tiara Reeder presented a proposed website for the Franklin County Fair intended to make donations, registration and payments easier and provide online ticketing with QR codes for events. The site also makes information about events more accessible. After a few questions the commissioners approved Reeder’s proposal.
They also awarded L&S Builders the bid for building the steer barn. Lundahl, Northern Steel and Ellis Equipment were the other bidders.
Troy Moser and Lance Geddes presented the asphalt bid, which saw an 8.5% increase over last year and was approved. Moser also discussed a garbage truck that was approved 2-3 years ago, but the company still has not delivered. Moser wished to buy a different brand from another company, but since it has been so long and he plans to go a different route, the commissioners required he get at least two more bids for a garbage truck before moving forward.
Jaydene Selleneit, Rebecca Fulcon, Dez Hasuer, and Larry Burden came before the commissioners to share their research and experiences on the impact and pitfalls of industrial solar. Their goal is to make certain that counties are aware of potential issues and hope ordinances will be put in place to protect counties and citizens before agreements with industrial solar companies are made.
A lease agreement with Kiwanis Club was presented by George and Connie Young, which was approved with the stipulation that a dollar amount be stated for the required insurance coverage and that the rodeo committee either be removed from the lease or, if they remain, to have a place for their signature as well. As the Rodeo Committee is not and cannot be a lessor, their inclusion is not necessary and would be only as a courtesy.
A short meeting on April 1 was held where bids for the Search and Rescue building were opened and awarded.
Concrete bids were received from Kelly Olsen, DJ Concrete and Stone Cold Concrete. The commissioners awarded the bid to DJ Concrete. HVAC Bids were received from J Ransom, Elite Mechanical, and Bare Heating. The bid was awarded to Elite Mechanical. Electrical bids were received from Stateline Electrical, Hemmert, S&T and A Crew. Stateline Electrical was chosen.
Lance Geddes will have the road crew haul in a foot of gravel to the area.
