West Motor, a long-time fixture at 296 N. State, has changed half of their ownership. In the past several months there has been a transfer of ownership from partners Doug and Wendy West to partner Doug Porter and his son Mike Porter.

West said he will still have an office and is going to do what he likes most, working with customers and being a mentor to dealership team members.

West Motor found selling cars online has been a market worth exploring with clients or customers as far away as Maine, South Carolina and even into parts of Canada. The clients will fly into Salt Lake International Airport to meet West and either take the car there or ride back to Preston to pick-up their automobile. West also has property he manages that has grown over the years.

Doug Porter and his son, Mike, stand with the former co-owner of West Motor, Doug West. The Porters recently bought out West’s shares of the auto dealership.

The Dougs have been friends since high school. The two started working at the dealership together while attending Preston High School. They became partners in 1980 when they purchased West Motor from West’s father, Phil West.
