A report on development of the “Experience the Shoshone People” tour itinerary will be among topics discussed at the Bear River Heritage Area quarterly meeting Monday, Jan. 28.
The meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Box Elder County Tourism Office, One South Main Street, Brigham City, Utah.
The Shoshone project report is among several reports set to be discussed, with several others applicable to Franklin County, including cemeteries, hot springs, agricultural sites, heritage products and scenic loop.
The 150th anniversary of the Bear River Massacre is the day after this meeting, Tuesday, Jan. 29. The massacre, which killed hundreds of Northwest Band Shoshones, took place six miles north of Preston. A marker is located on the site. A commemoration is held, usually at the site, each year to mark what is considered by many historians to be the deadliest battle/ massacre of any Native American tribe in U.S. history.
