Funding cutbacks for the Montpelier Forest Service Ranger District are forcing officials to consider a change in how campground maintenance and operations are accomplished on seven campgrounds located throughout the district, including Albert Moser and Willow Flat east of Preston.
Currently, the campgrounds are operated by Forest Service crews from May through September, according to Dennis Duehren, district ranger based in Montpelier. Season of use is dependent on winter snows and early frosts, but generally is Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Besides the two Franklin County campgrounds others include Emigration, Paris Springs, Montpelier Canyon, Summit View and Beaver Creek, he said.
