For the first time in several months, the Preston area received above-normal precipitation and ended December close to an inch above long-term averages.
Official records show the community received 2.37 inches of moisture. Normal precipitation is 1.52 inches.
“We were well-above average for December, but are still behind for the water year, which started on Oct. 1,” said King Smith, a Preston resident who keeps records for the National Weather Service. “We are behind by only .27 of an inch.
