Preston ended a five-game losing streak on Friday with a 50-38 victory over visiting West Side. The gym was nearly full and the crowd fully involved as the game remained within the grasp of either team until near the end.
Preston took charge in the first quarter with a 17-12 lead but a poor second quarter gave the Pirates an opening and they made the most of it coming back to take the lead while the Indians scored just one point.
In the second half the Indians clamped down defensively limiting West Side to 13 points and did a better job rebounding. The extra effort resulted in more offensive opportunities and made the difference in the game. Neither team shot the three well. Preston went 2-11 and West Side 1-8. Both suffered numerous turnovers in the highly charged atmosphere.
