The West Side boy’s basketball team played Marsh Valley Friday, Dec. 28 in Arimo and escaped with a four-point win in double overtime. The Pirates blew a 14-point lead it held earlier in the game and held on just long enough to win the game 72 – 68.
“It was a great game for the fans,” said Coach Tyler Brown. “The kids will remember this for a long time.”
Marsh valley built a five-point lead with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles failed to make their foul shots giving a perfect opening for Mason Lemmon to make a three-point shot tying the game at 51 with 11.3 seconds left.
In the first overtime Marsh Valley looked for victory again. Lemmon scored two more three pointers and the Pirates were within one point of Marsh Valley. With six seconds left, Dylan Turnbow tied the game at 60.
In the second overtime the Pirates would not let Marsh Valley lead again. West Side built a lead and made free throws to win the game.
This is the Pirate’s fourth straight victory and they will be heading into district playing against Aberdeen on Wednesday with a 4 -2 season record.
