An update was given to the Preston City Council on a memorial granite bench recognizing Cody O. Moosman for his ultimate sacrifice to his country and community this past summer.

Specialist Moosman, from Preston, was killed in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan last July.

The bench will be placed in the city park in coming months, next to a flagpole.

Preston resident Douglas Webb, who has been spearheading the project, told the council the proposed bench will be 14 by 42 inches and will be placed on two posts. It will be engraved on top, said Webb.

Several weeks ago Preston City officials gave their approval for the memorial. Webb said the bench, along with the flag pole, will be placed in the park near the Lions and Rotary Club shelters and adjacent to a playground area.
