West Side’s Brett Thornley made it to the top 16 in the semi-final round of the National Prepared Public Speaking finals at the recent Public Speaking contest at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
Thornley’s speech was entitled, “A Truly Endangered Species,” which addressed the concern of disappearing farmland to urbanization and a marked decrease in the number of American Farmers.
He reached the national competition by winning the Idaho State Prepared Public Speaking contest at a competition this past spring. He competed against 47 other state public-speaking winners in Indianapolis

“The student that eliminated Brett from the competition went on to win first place in the overall national competition,” said Jim Summers, West Side FFA advisor.
