After years of planning and approximately six weeks of construction work, a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday morning officially launched the Preston Community Food Pantry.

Termed “a work in progress,” Fred Knowlton, Preston Community Food Pantry president, he thanked the Cache Valley community and several individuals for their help in completing the project.

And shortly after the ceremony ended, volunteers got to work unloading a truck hauling food commodities from the Idaho Food Bank in Pocatello.

Brenda Hover, a board member of the Preston Community Food Pantry, cuts a ribbon on Thursday officially opening the new facility in Preston. Hover has been involved with Pantry efforts for a number of years.

Knowlton said since the local pantry now has space to warehouse food, officials are really encouraging the general public to step up to the plate and donate supplies to those in need.
