Preston girls run to second

In a fast-paced State Cross Country race held at Lewiston’s Hell’s Gate State Park on Saturday, the Preston girl’s team came in a close second to Middleton High School.

Middleton’s team score of 86 edged out Preston’s team score of 90. District rival Century placed fifth with 133 team points.

The Preston boy’s team placed fifth at the state meet. Frontrunner Pocatello easily outdistanced nearest competitor Kuna to pick up a second straight state championship.

Preston’s Caitlin Elgan outran district rival Hannah McInturff, of Century, to place fourth overall.

Ryden Crowther placed third as he defeated the Herndon twins, of Pocatello.

Elgan placed fourth at 19:12; Whitney Groll, 13th, 19:51; Kylee Wakley, 22nd, 20:12; Aunika Crowther, 27th, 20:22; Tori Groll, 37th, 20:41; MacKenzie Womack, 47th, 21:03; and Kayla Palmer, 57th, 21:24.

Crowther ran to third place at 16:05; Kendon Harrison, 30th, 17:06; Cameron Dietrich, 46th, 17:19; Kyle Dunn, 48th, 17:23; Ephriam Sharp, 50th, 17:27; Jordan Wright, 68th, 17:50; and Jonah Wilson, 78th, 18:00.
