On Oct. 14, 2008, the Preston Girls’ soccer team took second place in the district then went on to beat Minico and faced off against Bonneville for a berth at state. Unfortunately some bad luck sent them home empty-handed.

Since the day Idaho changed things and second place in this district no longer has the opportunity to compete in a state play-in game.

Fast forward to Oct. 13, 2012, in Idaho Falls. Things have changed and this time the Indians battled Blackfoot for second place and a state berth. With the score 0-0 at the half things were a little bit tense, but Preston was dominating the field and confident they could score. At the 52 minute mark Kassie Burton did just that when she put back the Blackfoot keeper’s deflection of a shot by Anna White.

Preston players celebrate a win over Blackfoot that propelled the team to a state playoff berth. Preston plays against powerhouse Bishop Kelly on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Idaho Falls. From l-r are: Kassie Burton, Olivia Wheatley, Olivia Priestley, Brooke Winward, McKenzie Bodily, Brynn Chipman, athletic director Brent Knapp and Whitney Coburn.
