Tyler Olson watched from the sideline as the Franklin County Republican Committee pulled the rug out from under the local candidates and picked an attorney from Bannock County, Vic Pearson, to fill the role of county prosecutor.

Pearson was selected to replace Todd Garbett, who was recently named magistrate judge in Bear Lake County.

Pearson was defeated in the Republican primary election for Bannock County Prosecutor and has recently rented a home in Franklin County.

Olson said he was looking forward to some healthy debates with local candidates on local issues, but the committee decided the local candidates weren’t what they wanted.

Independent candidate for prosecutor Tyler Olson rings the doorbell of a house on West Oneida Monday morning.

Olson, who was raised on a Weston farm, admits Pearson has significant experience, but he has heard local residents express concern about selecting a candidate without a vested interest in our community.
