Absentee balloting is now underway at the Franklin County Clerk’s office for the November general election. Voters can cast ballots absentee until Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.

Four county positions are up for election this month and there will be contested races for Franklin County Sheriff and Prosecutor.

Chief Deputy Dave Fryar, a Republican, is running for sheriff. He is being opposed by Alan G. Riggs, Fairview, a Democrat. Long–time Sheriff Don Beckstead did not file for re–election. His current term expires in January 2013.

Vic Pearson, who is currently the chief prosecutor for Bannock County, is running as Republican for prosecutor. He was recently selected by the local Republican Central Committee to replace Todd Garbett on the November ballot. Garbett, who has been Franklin County Prosecutor for several years, was just named as a magistrate judge, serving Bear Lake County.

Pearson will face Weston resident Tyler Olson, who filed as an Independent.
