National Fire Prevention Week kicks off locally on Monday, Oct. 8, with several school classes and other groups touring the local fire station.
Fire Commissioners and firemen will lead the tours. They will continue all month and, besides the students, tours will include various church and scouting groups, said local fire marshal Scott Martin. Anyone wanting information about tours for children and adults and information on fire safety can contact Martin at 852-3111 and leave a message.
Fire Commission chair Kim Crockett said he wants the fire prevention message to continue to get out to the public. The tours for all these groups at the fire station are somewhat unique, he said.
