A Franklin County man has been cited on two counts of taking doe mule deer out of season and two counts of wanton destruction of big game (waste) related to a poaching case in Preston last month.
On Monday, Aug. 20, Fish and Game Conservation Officer Korey Owens received information that two mule deer were found dead in a hayfield in Preston City limits, near 800 West and 200 North.
Both were females, and appeared to be lactating. Officer Owens searched the area for the fawns, but was unsuccessful. A forensic investigation revealed that both does were shot by a .22 caliber rifle, likely on the preceding Friday or Saturday evening.
