On Friday the West Side Pirates took on the American Falls Beavers, winning their first district game of the year 41-22.

The first quarter began with junior Coby Roholt running in the first Pirate touchdown.

Senior Tate Fuller, a wide receiver, runs for good yardage behind blockers Colby Roholt, 26, and Lane Meek, 29, on Friday against American Falls. West Side won 41-22.

Roholt also made the second Pirate touchdown. At the end of the first quarter, American Falls tried a lot of passes, which were stymied by the Pirate defense. The first quarter ended at 14–0 for West Side. At the beginning of the second, the Beavers scored. The Pirates answered right back and McCoy Roberts ran in another West Side touchdown. The first half ended with a score of 21–7.

At the beginning of the second half, West Side senior Tate Fuller made an excellent play running the ball 50-plus yards before being tackled.

Roberts ran in the fifth touchdown with Roholt following with another and at the end of the third quarter the score was 34–7. In the last stanza American Falls scored twice and Jon O’brien scored the final touchdown for the Pirates, icing the game.

“American Falls was ranked third in Idaho, so that was a good win to get under our belts,” said Roberts. Roholt kicked all the extra points.

He stated, “I think we did really well. At the beginning of the week, we focused a lot on the little things like following our blocks, running the right holes and being in our right spots on defense. We’ve been working harder on getting our team to trust each other so we can focus on our job instead of someone else’s.”

Coach Tyson Moser commented on the game saying, “Our team did exactly what we asked them to do this week. We wanted to come out and improve and go into our bye week on a high note. The kids played really hard and did a great job against a very good American Falls team. We still have a lot of improving to do and we need to clean up the penalties, but overall the team is making progress.”
