On Friday the West Side football team faced off against the Rich County Rebels. It was a close game with the Pirates eventually losing 46-30.

West Side senior Jaxson Smart tackles a Rich County player on Friday night during the Pirates home opener. West Side went down to the Rebels 46-30 and host Layton-Christian on Friday in a homecoming game.

The halftime score was Rebels 26, Pirates 6. In the third quarter the Pirates began to make a comeback. And in the fourth quarter the Pirates procured a lead over the Rebels with 10 minutes left.

But Rich County pulled away from West Side. The performance of the Pirates was overall better than in their first game against the Firth Cougars. The defense struggled. West Side got pummeled by Rich quarterback Austin Groll on both the ground and through the air. He ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more. The Pirates gave up 405 yards in offense. And Rich scored three touchdowns of 40 yards of more.

Senior Jon O’brien performed exceptionally well with a 60-yard touchdown run. Senior Dylan Turnbow also did well catching two passes for a total distance of 71 yards.
