Some property owners in Franklin County, and across the state, will be paying more property tax this December when they pay the first half of the 2012 assessment.
But the higher bill is not a reflection of anything the county or the other local taxing entities have done.
The maximum amount allowed under the state’s Home Owners Exemption has dropped by $8,066. Last year the maximum amount allowed was $92,040. In 2010 the maximum amount was $101,153. This year the amount has changed to $83,974.
