The Indian girls had a successful week in soccer with a 6-1 victory over visiting Canyon Ridge on Saturday and a 7-0 shutout against Minico at home on Aug. 21.
“Canyon Ridge was the best team we have played yet this year and they gave us a really good challenge,” said Coach Brandon Lyon. “Once again it took us a while to get going in both halves, so that is an area that we need to address.
“In the second half I felt we possessed the ball as well as we have all year and as a result created a lot of really good chances, scoring four goals and hitting the post four or five times.”
Preston scored first when Kenidee Hyde found the back of the net at the 12-minute mark, but Canyon Ridge came back and tied it up five minutes later. Olivia Wheatley put the Indians ahead 38 minutes in, off a pass from Anna White.
In the second half the Indians began to adjust and get a rhythm going. The result sealed the fate of Canyon Ridge as Hyde scored twice more giving her a hat trick and White sent in two. Of Preston’s 26 shots, six hit the frame.
