Twin Lakes Canal Company filed an appeal with the Idaho Water Resources Department on Aug. 9 seeking to reverse a preliminary order denying a water-right application for “winter water” flows in the Bear River.
The water would fill a proposed irrigation/ hydroelectric reservoir in the Oneida Narrows of the Bear River northeast of Preston.
Idaho’s Water Resources Program Manager James Cefalo ruled last month, as proposed, the Oneida Narrows Dam would interfere with downstream Bear River water rights in Utah and therefore is prohibited because of a compact Idaho has with Utah.
“Several media outlets reported the preliminary order from IDWR stopped construction of the proposed dam, which is not the case,” according to a statement issued Friday by Twin Lakes board of directors, comprised of Bosen, Jim Naylor and Wes Beutler.
