A variance and special-use permit procedure has been changed by Preston City officials.
In the past the city’s planning and zoning commission had the authority to grant variances and issue special-use permits. Council action on Monday suspended that authority until a new procedure could be drafted by city attorney Clyde Nelson.
The city council will now be the governing body to grant those requests. Mayor F. Lee Hendrickson said the council has for some time thought it should have more direct control of these type of requests. Nelson concurred with us, Hendrickson said.
