Homeowners should take precautions now
By ROBERT S. MERRILL
Franklin County Fire Marshall Scott Martin said homeowners, especially in the Cub River and Mink Creek areas, should continue to do what is necessary to reduce fire hazards on their properties the rest of this summer and fall.
There are a number of things homeowners can do that will go a long way toward protecting property from wildfire.
Martin also advised farmers who are cutting grain to make sure they take precautions to avoid field fires.
“Things are extremely dry right now and this includes grain and barley,” he said.
“Farmers should have fire extinguishers with them and extra water, if possible. They also should have a tractor with a harrow to make a quick fire break if a fire starts.”
