Big time names to compete in That Famous Preston Night Rodeo

By RODNEY D. BOAM

This year’s rodeo should be more action packed than ever. Rodeo committee member Kris Beckstead announced 12 National Finals Rodeo, National Champions are scheduled be competing at That Famous Preston Night Rodeo this weekend. She also said to watch for another 90 cowboys and cowgirls who are in the top 20 of their different events this weekend.

The rodeo committee is bringing back last year’s rodeo clown and bull fighter. They know he will give the audience something to laugh at again this year. Jeff Garner, a second-generation clown who began clowning around when he was 17 years-old, some 16 years and a degree in animal science later, still keeps people rolling in the isle with laughter.

Garner grew up on the edge of the Flint Hills in Kansas. He works 30 to 40 rodeos a year.

“The cowboy world has been a way of life for the Garner family for generations. I rode almost from the time I could walk, and it wasn’t long before I started breaking horses and accompanying my dad as he clowned and fought the bulls for rodeos,” Garner said. “It’s a life I love and I love to entertain the rodeo crowds. I have been clowning rodeos from Wisconsin to Arizona and most all points in between. I carry a variety of original comedy acts that keep you laughing and wanting more.”

Watch for some of his more popular props, like his “Cowboy Cadillac,” a bucking truck or his high speed fishing boat that really catches fish. He has a favorite “Barbecue Chicken” act and hopes you likes yours well done. There is a “Space Cannon” and of course “Pete the Wonder Pigeon,” he claims is the fastest pigeon in the world.
