The Preston Community Food Pantry recently received a donation from the Preston Lion’s Club in the form of $1,000. The Lions Club had previously been given $450 from American Family Insurance Company, with instructions to use in any way they wished. In turn, the Lions Club members voted to add $550 and donate a total of $1000 to the Food Pantry.
The money will be combined with funds already on hand to raise $55,000 for an extension of the Preston Archery Building, which houses Food Pantry distribution. Steven Aust, who is on the Pantry board, said they are 65 percent of meeting their goal. The funds will be used to build a food storage, sorting and packaging facility, and will be an addition to the existing Archery building.
The addition will give the Food Pantry space to accept food donations at any time and to conduct food drives and gleaning activities. On behalf of the Food Pantry, Aust would like to thank both the Lion’s Club and the American Family Insurance for the donation.
Once a month, the Food Pantry distributes food to an estimated 185 families, usually the second Thursday of each month, using volunteer workers. Proposals are being sent to individuals and various charities and civic organizations and anyone wishing to donate may do so by sending it to P. O. Box 109, Preston, ID 83263.
