The Preston City council has hired a new animal control officer and approved two new police reserve officers.
Heath Edwards will be the animal control officer, beginning immediately. He replaces long-time officer Jed Fellows, who resigned Feb. 27.
Fellows listed spending more time with family as the reason for his resignation, which was unanimously accepted by the city council.
Edwards is the great-grandson of long-time Preston resident and shoe repairman Felix Edwards. When the elder Edward’s house became available a number of years ago Heath packed up his family and moved to Preston.
He is currently working full-time in the produce department at Stokes MarketPlace and will be working 20 hours per week as an animal control officer.
