The Postal Service collected about 2,800 pounds of commodities this year, compared to last year when they collected 7,500 pounds. Postmaster Val Porter thought not sending out food bags this year hurt the cause and the other factor may be the cards they sent out got delivered with the political mailings so they weren’t noticed.
“It was discouraging, but it didn’t have anything to do with the public,” Porter said. “Preston has been good to support us in the past,” Porter said.
He wanted to thank the local sponsors again, Stokes MarketPlace, the Preston Citizen, KACH Radio and Pizza Villa for their help. Carriers will still take donations left in bags by the mail boxes. All of the food goes to the local SEICAA office.
