DAYTON – The first-annual high school piano competition, sponsored by Larry Dahle, will take place on May 12, at 7 p.m., in the Dahle Performing Arts Center on the high school complex in Dayton.
Each high school participating will send one piano soloist to perform. The first-place winner will take home $1,000.
Second place will win $500 and third, $250, according to school officials.
Participants will have a six-minute period to perform a solo for the judges and audience and must prepare and perform a classical solo.
The selection must be performed from memory, officials added.
Contestants will be judged on degree of difficulty, tone, rhythm, style, execution, memory and musicianship.
Participants will receive critique sheets by mail following the competition, officials added.
The performance is open to the public.
