A new superintendent has been chosen to lead the West Side School District during a one-year transition period. And high school principal Spencer Barzee was named assistant superintendent by school officials.
Former Preston School District superintendent Dr. Barbara Taylor has been chosen to lead the West Side District and will help train Barzee during the one-year period with an understanding he will take over the position one year from July.
Barzee will also continue to serve as principal for the coming school year.
“Dr. Taylor’s contract with the district will be 50 percent of a full-time contract. Under the Board’s leadership transition plan, Mr. Barzee will become the District Superintendent on July 1, 2013,” said Tyler Bowles, West Side School Board chair, on Monday.
In a memo to district faculty and employees, the school board said it expresses its appreciation to Dr. Taylor and Mr. Barzee for their willingness to serve the district.
“I appreciate the confidence of our school board. I am excited to serve the constituents and students of the West Side School District,” Barzee said in a short statement.
