If an area can be found to allow skeet shooting at the Franklin County Rifle Range, commissioners said Monday they will allow shotguns to be used at the facility.
But as of now, the firearms are still banned.
A number of years ago skeet shooting took place regularly at the range. But county officials banned the guns at the facility northwest of the airport in 2007 because some of the pellets and skeet were landing on nearby private property.
“We’ve turned the matter over to range director David Parrish,” said commissioner Scott Workman. “If a proper place can be found, I don’t think there will be a problem.”
Kathy Ray, area economic development director, told the commission she is submitting a grant application to help officials in Franklin County find a suitable location for a business park.
“We recently had an inquiry from a company who would like 25 acres of ground with access to a rail line, water and sewer,” she told the commission.
