“Last year the PHS girls softball team missed out on early field practice due to bad weather,” said Coach Ashley Larsen. “The lingering wet weather made it even harder to host scheduled games and we missed out on six, due to weather conditions. The fields are clay soil and do not soak up water well.”
Last summer the softball team hosted a co-ed softball league as a fundraiser and decided to purchase a field cover with the money raised.
“I’m so grateful to the teams that participated and made this possible for these girls,” said Larsen. “We feel the cover, plus the use of a batting cage will go a long way to helping the team be successful this season.
“We hope to continue the co-ed softball league and keep it going. Others that have donated to help out with the new addition are Rex Pitcher, of Plastic Industries, who gave a pipe to roll the tarp around when not in use.
“Ron Keller Tires donated used tires to help secure the cover. Thanks to all those in our community. We appreciate it and hope for an early spring.”
