DAYTON – A slow third quarter spelled doom for West Side Monday night in loser-out game in the 2A Fifth District basketball tournament in Soda Springs.
The Pirates lost to the Cardinals 64-54. But West Side’s season isn’t over yet. They have to play Declo on Thursday at 7 p.m. at American Falls in a play-in game. A win on Thursday night would pit the Pirates against an unnamed opponent on Saturday in yet another play-in game.
West Side played toe-to-toe against Soda during the first half and only trailed by five at half 26-21. But then the wheels fell off in the third when Cardinal players started knocking down 3-pointers. At the end of that stanza the score was 51-30 and the Pirates couldn’t catch up, even though they valiantly tried.
“We had one bad quarter. We weren’t playing bad defense. Soda just started hitting from long-range and we couldn’t overcome a 20-point deficit. But I was proud of our kids. They never quit,” said Head coach Tyler Brown
JD Cook led West Side with 17 points. Mason Lemmon added nine and Tate Fuller, 8.
The Pirates beat the Malad Dragons on Saturday night in another loser-out 62-46 to get to Monday’s game.
