After a disappointing loss against the Soda Springs Cardinals on Thursday, the Pirates were pumped up for their Saturday game against the North Gem Cowboys and came out on top 39-34.
The Pirates had played them the week before and won so they were fairly confident of another win. The Pirates didn’t start the game off quite the way they wanted to with the Cowboys and fell behind early.
The Pirates stuck to it, though, and ended the half with a 19-18 lead.
“We expected we were going to win so we didn’t play as well as we could have in the first three quarters,” said Alyssa Povey, of the Pirates.
Alyssa Povey scored the team high of 12 points followed by Heather Greene with seven and Britani Moser with six.
On Thursday the Pirates were confident as about how the game was going to go, but fell short after the dust settled. They were getting ready to have their facedown with Soda, one of West Side’s biggest sports rivals.
The first half ended in the Pirates’ favor, though, with a 22-15 lead. After the half, the Cardinals started off by scoring 12 points before West Side’s Heather Greene scored.
The Pirates hoped to pick it up in the fourth quarter, but that didn’t happen. The final score was 46-33 in the Cardinals’ favor. “It was a tough game,” remarked Casey Rich, of the Pirates. “Soda has a really good team, but we can beat them. Tonight we just fell apart in the second half.”
