The Preston Lions Club will be sponsoring a “Night for Sight” event this Friday, Jan. 27, at the Preston/ Century basketball game.

Anyone who brings a pair of used eyeglasses to the game will receive a ticket to win the game basketball signed by the Indian team and a few other door prizes, said club president David Kunze.

He said it is hoped at least 500 pairs of eyeglasses will be collected at the event.

“The used glasses will be sorted and sent to a Lions distribution center. In October of last year the local Lions Club sent 1,478 pairs of eyeglasses to the distribution center,” he said.

Kunze said throughout the year Lions and other volunteers collect used eyeglasses (prescription, reading, and sun glasses in plastic and metal frames) and deliver them to a regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.

“They are cleaned, sorted by prescription strength and packaged. The glasses are then distributed, mostly, to people in developing countries where they will have the greatest positive impact. Anyone with used eyeglasses that are no longer needed are encouraged to donate them this Friday,” he said.
