The Lady Indians faced off against a tough Marsh Valley team at home on Saturday, Dec. 10. Though they lost 54- 32 Coach Pope felt the score was not indicative of how they played. “They are a very talented and experienced team. I was very proud of how our girls played in the first half. The girls worked very hard to contest every shot and box out on every play. We were down by 3 at halftime, but I felt we had played one of the best halves that we’ve played all year.”

The second half didn’t go as well for the Indians. A couple of easy baskets off turnovers gave the Eagles the momentum and they kept it.

Points – Regan 13, Katie T. 6, Katie C. 5, Anna 2, Brielle 2, Morgan 3, Shania 1; Rebounds – Shania 9, Katie T. 7; Assists – Anna 3; Steals – Regan 3.

Preston’s rematch against Bear Lake on Wednesday, Dec. 7, on the road proved to be a successful one for them. The 48-38 victory was not only a much better showing than the previous game, but also their first win of the season.

“We were happy to get our first win of the year at Bear Lake. The girls really wanted it and showed how hard they have been working. It was a team effort from start to finish,” said Coach Pope.

The first half neither team could gain much of an advantage and the score remained very close. In the third quarter Preston secured the momentum with three 3-point shots giving them a 10 point lead that they were able to maintain the rest of the game.

“One of the keys for us was our defense. In our first game, the Bear Lake posts really dominated us. The second time around, we were able to do a much better job of working together defensively to stop them,” Pope said.

“Morgan Yardley had a great game, making 4 three-pointers. Regan Hyde had 11 points, 15 rebounds, and 6 assists. Anna White played very well at the point. I was very proud of all the girls.”

Preston played at Burley on Tuesday, Dec. 13, and will host Shelley on Thursday, Dec. 16. Varsity games begin at 7:30 p.m., JV and freshmen at 6 p.m.
