Preston had a great first half against visiting Minico on Friday, Nov. 18, but lost Minico 48-35. Two, three pointers by Morgan Yardley helped the Indians gain an eight-point lead in the first quarter and they still held a one-point advantage at the end of the second.
The momentum shifted in the third quarter though and the Spartans outscored Preston 16-5 giving them a 10-point cushion.
“We really struggled in the third quarter,” said Coach Ryon Pope. “We didn’t do a good job of executing our half-court offense. We regathered ourselves in the fourth quarter and had some opportunities to cut into their lead, but we never got closer than about six points.
“Minico hit their free throws down the stretch and we were unable to get our first win of the year.”
Pope feels the ladies played much better defensively against Minico and the team is working on half-court execution of the offense. “We will continue to build our offense. It will take time, but I believe we will get better and better.”
