The new water year got off to a good start in October with both mountain and valley locations reporting rather wet conditions.
Nice fall weather has helped farmers finish up field work and the Bear River Basin reported 131 percent of normal precipitation.
King Smith, a Preston junior high school science teacher who keeps official records for the National Weather Service, said the valley received nearly normal precip. (See the full story in The Preston Citizen.)
