A warning has been issued to motorists by Preston Police Chief Val Sparrow to keep vehicles locked and out of sight.

“Recently we’ve had a number of reports of items, including hunting rifles, guns and equipment, taken from both unlocked and locked vehicles,” said Chief Sparrow.

He said this problem is not just isolated to Preston. Similar reports have been taken by law enforcement in the county and surrounding communities.

“It is especially important during this time of year and with the upcoming Christmas season that motorists keep vehicles locked and remove any valuable items, including guns, CDs, cameras, and presents,” he said.

“Extra efforts need to be made to make sure houses, sheds and other outbuildings need to be locked.”

If anyone has any information regarding vehicle or other burglaries, they need to contact the Preston Police Department by calling 852- 2433.
