The dust has settled on the municipal election filing period in Preston, and there will be no race for mayor or two incumbent council members on election day on Nov. 8 unless there is a write-in candidate.
The filing deadline was Friday at 5 p.m. Incumbent Mayor F. Lee Hendrickson filed for mayor for the four-year post. Four-year seats held by Councilwoman Saundra Hubbard and Councilman Neal Larson are both up for election. Both filed for re-election, but no one filed to oppose them either.
The deadline when a write-in candidate must declare his/her intention is Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. at the city clerkâs office, according to county election clerk Camille Larsen. She said even if no write-in candidates file in Preston, a city election will still have to be held, according to Idaho law. (See the full story in The Preston Citizen.)
