West Side junior McCoy Roberts carries the ball against Layton Christian on Friday. The Pirates remain undefeated with the 36-14 win.

Another day game in the afternoon heat against a new school they had never played seemed like it would be a good challenge for the Pirates.

“Going into the game we knew they had a lot of good players and talent, but they weren’t great at teamwork,” McCoy Roberts said.

Early on in the game West Side had many little mistakes. Multiple fumbles and turnovers gave Layton Christian confidence and the spark they needed to keep their defense strong.

They held the Pirates for a while even though they had not scored. During the third half the momentum shifted and West Side started to finish plays and cut back on turnovers which landed them many points on the board. (See the full story in The Preston Citizen.)
