A fire Wednesday morning heavily damaged a storage complex just north and west of the county’s Robinson Fairgrounds building in Preston at 200 N. 200 West.

An inferno, fueled by propane and cooking grease, engulfs the far east vendor booth at the Franklin County Fairgrounds Wednesday morning. The entire structure will have to be razed.

During the annual fair, which was underway last week, many of the small units are used by vendors. Food vendors occupied two of the four units destroyed by the blaze. The other two had retail merchandise in them. The rest were vacant at the time of the fire.

Even though only five of the 10 spaces were badly damaged by the flames, Wes Harris, fair manager, said he has met with an insurance adjuster who advises the entire structure be torn down and rebuilt.

Franklin County Fire District Fire Marshal Scott Martin said the fire call came in at 9:22 a.m. and 12 local firefighters were on scene within minutes. Four firefighters and one truck from Lewiston assisted, as well as the Cache County Fire Chief. (See the full story in The Preston Citizen.)
