It’s back-to-school time next week for students at Preston and West Side school districts, and motorists, students, parents and school employees need to be aware of new schedules and routines for safety sake.
School starts in the Preston School District on Wednesday, Aug. 24. In the West Side District it back to school one day later on Thursday, Aug. 25.
Preston Police Chief Val Sparrow said all community residents need to consider a number of safety issues with the start of school, especially since school is starting one-half hour earlier than a couple of years ago.
The school bell rings for all elementary students, as well as Preston Junior High School students, at 8 a.m. High school students start at 8:10 a.m. In the past school has started at 8:30 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., respectively. The new times are necessary again this year to accommodate a four-day school week that is in its second year. (See the full story in The Preston Citizen.)
