Free Fishing Day: Idaho event set on June 14

June 7, 2014

Assistant editor

Anglers across Cache Valley, including Franklin County and throughout Idaho, can fish for free across the state on Saturday, June 14. It’s Free Fishing Day.

All reservoirs in Franklin County have been stocked with catchable rainbow trout from the Grace Hatchery.

“We usually stock Treasureton, Lamont, Johnson, Glendale, Weston and Winder reservoirs before Memorial Day,” said David Teuscher, fisheries manager with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, who is based in Pocatello.

Teuscher said Grace Hatchery personnel planted catchable trout just before the Memorial Day weekend. Fish have also been placed in the Bear River.

“Even if you or your kids do not know how to fish, there will be plenty of helpful hands at the various events to assist with fishing basics, from baiting a hook to reeling in a catch. Poles, bait and other gear will be available for use for free at the events while supplies last,” said Jennifer Jackson, regional educator with IDFG.
