On Thursday evening 140 seniors and 10 foreign-exchange students participated in Preston High School Commencement exercises.
The gymnasium was full of friends and family supporting the graduates, some of whom overcame great odds, as they took the final steps of their high school career.
The processional, “Olympic Fanfare and Theme,” performed by the PHS band and Orchestra conducted by Wayne Manning, started things off. That was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Tori Groll.
Johnny Iverson welcomed the audience and Kendon Harrison introduced the theme, “The World Will Be Watching,” after which a signal was played and the graduates saluted with three fingers held high.
Nicholas Benoit introduced the salutatorian Abbey Olsen. Morgan McKay introduced valedictorian Bethany Jensen. Both spoke to the students about growing up and moving on. Jensen specifically told the graduates to make their lives extraordinary, not by becoming famous, but by being good, decent people through the little things they will do each day.
