WS boys take third: Baird wins four golds

After weeks of training, the Pirates’ track season came to a close on Friday and Saturday at the state championships held at Middleton High School near Boise.

The Pirate’s boys’ team ran their way to third place with 72 points and the girls’ team took ninth with 34.

With a discus throw of a 118’08”, senior Lauren Porter captured her individual gold early on in the two-day meet.

Porter also scored points for the girls with her sixth place performance in the shot put.

West Side’s Zachary Hatch pole vaults to fourth place at the state track meet on Saturday. Hatch, who only started vaulting this year, vaulted 12’6”. It was six inches higher than his previous personal best.

She was also a member of the 4×100 team that came in third with a time of 52.38.

Casey Rich, Addie Cook and Taya Nash were also on that team.

Nash had a great finish to her sophomore season.

After taking seventh in the preliminary race, she went on to place fourth in the 100m hurdles.
