The first Village Post Office in southeastern Idaho opened Thursday in Clifton, following a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by several local and regional postal dignitaries. The facility is located inside Papa Jay’s Convenience Store, 10 S. Main.
Village Post Offices are located in non-Postal Service establishments, such as an existing community business, town hall or government center, and offer a limited range of postal services, according to Val Porter, Preston postmaster.
He said the VPO in Papa Jay’s would offer postal customers in the community greater access to Forever Stamp booklets, free Priority Mail flat-rate supplies and prepaid Priority Mail Flat Rate products.
The VPO in Papa Jay’s will not take the place of the regular post office in Clifton, said Porter.
“What it will do is provide extended access to some postal services. The Clifton Post Office operates Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. On Saturday it is open from 9 -11 a.m. Papa Jay’s is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday,” he said.
