The Preston track teams did very well at the six-school 4A District 5-6 Championships on Thursday and Friday, May 8-9. They came in second behind Rigby in both boys and girls.
Nineteen individuals will compete at the state track meet on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, in Boise.
“We feel pretty good about it,” said coach Brandon Lyon. “Rigby is perennially one of the top teams, if not the top team, in the state, boys and girls.
“And to have the boys come as close as they did to Rigby, that was pretty exciting to see.”
The top four finishers (top two in relays) in each event qualified for the state tournament. Preston finished in the top four in 19 events, despite being one of the smaller 4A teams and less than ideal weather conditions.
Some of the standouts included senior Olivia Seamons, who qualified in all four of her events and won the triple jump.
