DAYTON – The Pirate softball team finished its regular season last Wednesday against Malad in a home contest and lost 10-9.
It was the Pirates’ senior day and honored were Courtney Priestley, Whitnee Smart, Stephanie Davis, Kelsi Chugg and foreign exchange student, Jessie Park.
This week the Pirates begin their district tournament.
Priestley had knee surgery before the final contest, but was still able to attend the game on Wednesday.
Smart suffered a hand injury a couple games earlier, taking her out of the batting rotation, but leaving her in the infield.
With a runner on second, the Pirates got their third out in the bottom of the seventh, losing the game.
Though it was a loss on senior day, the Pirates looked at the game’s close score with hope for the district tournament.
The Pirates easily beat Soda Springs earlier, leaving only Malad as an unbeaten district opponent.
Over the course of the season, the Pirates have dramatically improved, coming closer and closer to beating Malad.
