Preston High School’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) Club has really done well this year, said Cheryl Burgess, the club advisor. At regionals and again at state, all competing students placed in the top 10 of their events, with the majority bringing home first, second and third place awards.
Eleven students qualified for state. Seven students attended state and brought home the following awards: Megan Steadman and Ryan Barton, first place, Computer Animation Team; Megan Steadman, Top 10, 3D Computer Modeling; Ryan Barton:, third place, PC Servicing and Troubleshooting; Lexus Rawlings, second place, Fundamental Accounting; Karleigh Stricko, Top 10, Web Design (XHTML & CSS); Bailee Wiley, Top 10, Integrated Office; Vivika Reyes, Leadership Academy; Alex Winward, Top 10, Entrepreneurship.
Ryan, Megan, Lexus, Bailee and Karleigh qualified for nationals and Burgess is looking forward to taking the group to Indianapolis, Ind., April 30-May 4 of this year. Burgess has been the BPA club advisor since 2006 and enjoys working with the students.
“We have a great group of students at PHS,” Burgess said. “I am always so proud to be with them. They really give it their best.”
